  • Baja 1000 - Team Australia

    Just a short bit of news from our web site. Hopefully I will get an update every couple of days from Wonka if they can get internet access where they are staying in Mexico.

    From http://www.forceaccessories.com.au
    Wonka and Grabbo have started their pre-riding of the Baja course with a short 40 mile ride on Friday, November 13. They plan to continue pre-riding the off-road sections over the next week in the lead up to the event.

    The race is due to start on Friday, November 20 at 6:30 am. (Nov 21, 1:30am Melbourne time) Their progress can be tracked live at www.aussieironrider.com Click on the Spot Tracker link
    They each have a practice bike and are running their respective sections of the track separately. The picture is of their race bike. In case anyone notices, that's not a plastic KTM bash plate, it's a new process we are about to start that applies a plastic coating to aluminium.

      that plate and bike looks awesome.

      Why is it that they have an X on the number? What does it distinguish if anything?

      I'll be interested to see how they go! Best of luck boys

          I think the "x" might distinguish the fact they are a team, ie a pair or more and not riding ironman.

          The boys definately have the skill to pull it off, only thing that will let them down will be track knowledge.

            X = Motorcycle
            A = ATV

                The primary reason is cosmetic, it also cuts down a bit of the reflected engine noise.

                      The guys have now pre-run the entire course twice and some sections 3 times. A lot of the tracks are narrow, hilly and rocky, so far everything is looking good.

                        Thanks for the updates Brian,,

                        Not sure how much info you have available but i was wondering if they are happy with the ground speeds they are producing and the bike feel for terrain..?

                        I know the two boys can mix it with the best, but i guess I'm keen to hear if they are in the zone so to speak..

                        Thanks again Brian

                              I don't know, at the moment I have just been getting a very brief email every couple of days. I know they will be very busy concentrating on the pre-running so I haven't phoned them.
                              Tomorrow they will be in Ensenada the night before the race so I will give them a call to see how they are going and wish them luck.
