Like many of you, I don’t want to see DBW die.
It is a great resource with a ton of good information archived, so even now that it much quieter, it would still be a loss for it to disappear.
We’ve all searched for some information and found that google has brought us to DBW for the best information.
I have spoken to Keg, and he would love to see it continue, but is unwilling to continue to pour his own money into doing so.
At least one other person has had a similar conversation with him (I will let that person identify himself if he wants to).
VERY loosely, here’s the most likely option that I can see:
A small group of people pay to keep it going, possibly using some sort of Go Fund Me to minimise their own costs.
Hopefully we can keep the the technical volunteers (Galey etc) on board and hopefully we could stay on the same server could continue.
If I am part of that small group, I would also look at ways to re-invigorate the forums - not expecting miracles, but little things like culling some of the sub-forums and amalgamating others would simplify it and also create more activity.
My question is:
Are there more than two of us who care?
Would you be willing to pay $10 or 20 a year to keep DBW alive?
I know that most people default to Facebook nowdays, but FB is terrible for archiving information, suffers from FB’s nonsense moderation (a mate got banned for insulting her dog in a post...), plus the forum won’t spy on you.
