Chris Eccles is the second head to roll over the hotel quarantine fiasco, which sparked Victoria’s coronavirus second wave that has claimed nearly 800 lives.

      I went here:

      https://www.csiro.au/en/News/News-re...-survivability

      and then here:

      https://virologyj.biomedcentral.com/...85-020-01418-7

Searched the page for the word "alive" and "live" and found no results. I only skimmed quickly through the articles so don't profess to have looked closely. Why would CSIRO use words like "remain infectious" and "virus was still detectable" and "infectious virus was recoverable" and "persistence of virus" and avoid using the word "alive" or "live"? They did use "survive" in there - is that enough to imply it can be "alive"? Or are they using survive with "viable" or "remains viable" interchangeably?

This is not an argument worth having. They are alive alright. A quick google doesnt demonstrate anything. Quote me a paper that says that viruses are not alive, and I'll show you an ignorant fake. "Survive" explicitly says alive - same latin root.
Are you suggesting that viruses do not consist, in part, of RNA?

"Viruses are the smallest living things known to science" Quote from the rear cover of Carl Zimmer's A Planet of Viruses (second edition, published pre-covid).
        You know better?

P.S. I read the two articles you linked to. Neither of them are stupid enough to claim that viruses are not living things. Are you?

It's alive when it gets into living cells and replecates, it's viable/infectuous whilst its floating through the air for a period of time, same on a surface, they said it survives in a dark room on hard surfaces at a constant 20 deg c with controlled humidity, I think the reality is they can find evidence of it up to 28 days in ideal conditions, whether it can cause disease in a Human at 28 days is something they haven't claimed as such, they've implied it though.

EDIT, just seen more about it, they may as well have spat on a petri dish and carefully placed the virus in the spit.

.... and also alive until it dies some minutes/hours/days/weeks later

A truly despicable Premier offering a little ray of sunshine over a State disaster of his making !

                          • VIC stats update . . .

Victoria records seven new cases, five deaths

Victoria has recorded 7 x new cases on Wednesday and 5 x deaths were reported in the previous 24 hours.

It is understood three of the cases have been detected in the northern Victorian town of Shepparton.

All three are believed to be linked to an outbreak associated with the Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne’s southeast.

The Gippsland community of Bairnsdale, in the state’s far east, is also on alert after a student at the town’s secondary college tested positive for the virus.

The five deaths bring Victoria’s coronavirus death toll to 816.

All but 19 of these deaths have occurred as a result of the state’s second wave of coronavirus cases, sparked by breaches in the Andrews government’s hotel quarantine program.

It is not known how many of the most recently reported deaths occurred in the 24 hours to Wednesday.

There were 23 x people in Victorian hospitals and 0 x people in ICU on Tuesday

There were also only 30 x cases linked to aged care on Tuesday - many of them in staff rather than residents - down from 147 a fortnight earlier.

645 x deaths are linked to aged care – as of Tuesday.

Victorian authorities have previously added deaths to the official death toll weeks after they occurred (?)

Melbourne’s 14 day daily average number of new cases is now 9.6, down from 10.0 on Tuesday and a low of 9.4 on Friday, and down marginally from 9.9 last Wednesday.

This compares with a 14 day daily average of 0.6 in regional Victoria - up from 0.4 on Tuesday - and up from a low of 0.3 on October 3.

Aside from the Shepparton and Bairnsdale cases, all other known cases in regional Victoria are linked to the Odfellows cafe in Kilmore, north of Melbourne, where a Melburnian linked to the Chadstone cluster illegally ate breakfast.

As of Tuesday there were 186 active cases of coronavirus Statewide, down from 191 on Monday and 189 on Sunday.

Biden's days of learning anything are long gone.
He can barely remember what he's running for or where he is.

Hopefully, in a few short weeks the poor bastard will be able to give up the charade and have a nice long lay down.
