  • The first pill to help in the fight against Covid-19 could be made available within months, but Australia hasn’t signed on to purchase any doses just yet.

Interim clinical trial results of the experimental antiviral treatment molnupiravir have shown the drug cut the chance of patients being hospitalised by 50 per cent and dramatically reduced the risk of death.

US manufacturers Merck said it would apply to the Food and Drug Administration for an emergency use authorisation for the drug within the next fortnight.
    coincidence ?

Merck & Co., Inc., d.b.a. Merck Sharp & Dohme outside the United States and Canada, is an American multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Kenilworth, New Jersey.
    Time and tide . .

Apparently worked great, they gave half the patients placebo , half the pill , all got better , placebo patients got worse . [one of the tests]

        - so the company that makes Invermectin (out of patent and worth cents in the dollar) decides to tweak the formula and introduce Molnupiravir ?

It would be interesting to the formula comparison between the two ?

I imagine that Molnupiravir will be at a huge price premium ?

It would also be interesting to see any medical comparison between Acyclovir and Molnupiravir
        . . ?

Um....no, that wasn't the result, somewhat worked in a limited test compared to the placebo would be a more accurate assessment.
Good to see your positive spin though.

Yep, we are entitled to hope for more than a 50% drop in deaths and hospitalisations. But it is a reasonable result from a very preliminary test.

For the Twitterers, a Doctor takes you through his patients journey, one thing that stood out was him reminding us that the people that get a bad reaction to the virus are 14 odd days from initial infection by the time he gets them and the Virus is long gone. If I'm in dire straights at 14 days after infection I'll be happy to have the final sleep.

Sounds dodgy... unless it was written by your French uncle 466 years ago.

A quick search reveals Molnupiravir and Invermectin are completley different. How people think that invermectin a drug designed to kill hellmith and insect parasites will work on a virus I have no idea..

Acyclovir from personal experience only works on the the Herpes simplex viruses which it was designed to treat.

Nobody knew little blue pills designed to reduce hypertension would cause stiffies for the impotent either.
