I saw them when I was about 9 or 10 years old (now 51)
at the Maitland show (S.A small country town on Yorke Peninsula)

also remember the chook chase using a live rooster and all of us kids would run across the oval and showgrounds chasing this chook..

    the ol days

Here's a great bit from his website:

Sponsored Single Ramp Classic High Jump
BYO vehicles to your event to have David Russell launch over them all - up to 20 cars (requires significant space) or a half dozen, this classic single ramp high jump has been responsible for more broken bones and hospital emergencies than any other motorcycle stunt in performing history.

The perfect way to draw sponsorship for your show and increase revenue - David can jump vehicles from local automotive dealerships with full branding, flags and pyrotechnics. Agricultural equipment, cars, trucks, caravans or buses -
