  • VORC for Juniors

Hi all - I have a 14yo who is keen to start enduro / XC / sprints... does anyone have any experience with juniors in VORC or similar?
We are members of our local club that does a few natural terrain rounds, but I am interested to know the ins and outs fo juniors tackling VORC... difficulty, etc..
    any help would be appreciated
    Steve

The track difficulty in the VORC is or that difficult, the most difficult round will probably be Rawson for round 1 and 2 in a couple of weeks. It is pretty much tight single everywhere and it gets pretty rough towards the end. It's a red clay base and if it's even a little bit wit it becomes like ice.

You would encounter more difficult things on a normal trail ride and everyone will be able to get around the track. It is actually a requirement that the track is relatively easily passable by all levels of riders.

There is plenty of sweep riders for that round though to help out the kids but they modify the track to keep them out of the steeper slippery bits.

Get him down to give it a go, ride at his own pace and most of all just enjoy it, he will be fine.

Probably a bit late, now that round 5 has already been run, but I'll chime in anyway. The majority of the tracks aren't that difficult and most kids will have little trouble negotiating the tracks unless the weather is severe. As Walks said, Rawson is tough in the wet, and so is Three Bridges. Weather aside though, the track itself won't require Jarvis like skills to finish, it's just how fast they can finish. At 14 I'm assuming they're competent at picking up the bike and handling the odd log, hill climb and drop off. If you've kept to MX tracks and groomed trails, maybe a trials bike session would help, but not a necessity.
Enduro is not like MX and everyone is encouraged to help if they come across someone in trouble, especially if they've crashed. It's a great day/weekend out. I'd say get on it.

PS. We're not doing all the rounds this year, but if you see us, pop over and say hi to the Hammer on bike 606. ^roost
