  • EC 300 air filter fitting?

Changing out the air fiter for the first time

Got a new funnel web and oiled it up.

Fitted it up and at first it sealed ok at the left side but not on the upper side. A bit of wiggling and it seemed to fit better on the top with the black seal surface surface making good contact with the air box.

When I fiited the spring loaded rod it fitted into the platic cup at the back of the airbox but it seems to be at a strange angle.

Hopefully you can see this from the photos. Have i messed up? Is there some tips/ tricks to replacing the filter? Or does it look ok?

All I remember is that it was somewhat tricky. I always had problems sealing the far side (away from the access port, out of view). Dont quote me on this, but I found funnelweb filters the worst for this - they are unstructured, ie floppy. I always got it there in the end.

Good on you for asking, nothing worse than doubting yourself then stuff it up and dust your engine.
I don't have a gg but I rubber glove check all around mine to see if I can get fingers in anywhere. I bought mine with the filter not seated and dust in the intake boot. Last owner not mech minded obviously.

BB can I suggest whilst your new and feeling your way with this new steed and its acoutrements That you grease the sealing edge.
Yes a bit more trouble on assembly and when cleaning But it takes any doubt out of the equation Plus leaves you with a clear trace when
you fit / remove / check / refit before a ride.

PS This is far far better than peering in feeling in the back blocks of the airbox blah blah blah.....
After all We all know how hopeless young fella's are when it comes to feeling their way around in the dark with
something complex that they know little about !

            Thanks everyone for the feedback

Yes always grease the rim......que rude response!

The only thing that still worries me is the ofd angle of the spring loaded rod to the "cup" it sits in

Is any body with an 18/19 GG able to share a photo of what theirs looks like?

            Thanks

              I'm nutty.. No I'm not.. I'm hairyone.
              I may reverse-pump air-to the filter:

              Very gently from inlet-manifold-end:
If it balloons without fart; all's good?

Yes, grease does work & I do use it:

For the record, the 2018/19 gassers are really easy for filter fitment.
There's a couple of 'fins' moulded into the airbox, and a couple of corresponding cut outs in the cage. Align the cut outs to the fins, slide the filter and cage in until it goes 'clunk' and then you're done.
Really positive fitment and location. I still grease the edge of the filter, just for old times sake, but after owning a 2013, where you really had to cross your fingers, this airbox is brilliant.
