  • crf450x who has the most kilometres?

I'm approaching 5000ks and 100hrs and my valves haven't move yet! something most be wrong! Planning to do freshing up very soon! before the piston trys to turn in the bore. And the valves wears the seats. I'm thinking 150hrs max! I don't want to pull it down to early. but think early will be better than late!!!

Just wondering who has the most k's on a 450x 10,000plus???

mollystaff did quite abit on his 06 before he sold it.. I don't think he even touched it at all other than oil and general stuff.

he did close to or more than 8 or 9 k I think..

If ya don't ride it on the limiter much a 450 will be a friend

I have 3300km....on original valves....have had them shimmed twice...so next time it will need new ones and yeah the same...will need to do a piston I suppose.......but 5000km and no movement...wow...go buy a lotto ticket my friend.....or let Honda know...they might put your bike in a museum
      as a fine example of a CRF450X.
Not sure on how many hours on mine as hour meter shat itself from being washed. Maybe yours is a xr in crf clothing2

I don't think its abnormal to have 5000ks with no movement, I have an 06 I put new valves in at 5000 and the piston was fine.
4-strokes have one real advantage over 2-strokes. Like the "big bang" theory in street bikes, the firing cycles are spaced longer, letting the tire hook up better on loose ground. And I'm sorry if I have hurt any 2-strokes feelings, but what do I care?

I did a bit of a search and found you used stock valves. I'm thinking of doing the same since i've had such a good run so far.

Did you get the seats cut? Did you replace valve springs? how k's or hrs you at now?

I used the stock valves, no seats and nothing else, it has only done a few 100ks since as its my partners bike and she has been doing nursing studies and has had no time to ride, still starts first go and idles nicely.

I'm up to 7800ks and 172 hours now. Had TRX piston put in at 135hrs. Inlet valves were replaced at 6400ks and 154hrs with Faction MX valves.

Bike was used to do Finke Pre running so did the last 1400k in 18 hour or so. Checked valves and no movement. !psm

I'm just about to switch to the Penrite Gas oil and hope to go past 10,000k or 250hrs without doing anything other than regular maintenance;ug2

On my 3rd 450X in 6 years, 18,000 - 20,000 km all up, never had to touch an engine other than the last one used to carbon foul plugs every 1500km or so.

I haven't been riding the 450x enough. I am only at done 8500k now. I've done more k's on my XR400 this year. I think I'll be ridding a bit more in 2014.

My 450X is an 08, got it in April 09 as a runout and it has 14500km on it now.
It's used mostly on backroads and station tracks and firetrail sort of riding, so that no doubt helps it's lifespan - but I have chucked it at the ground pretty hard a few times!
It broke an aftermarket (Two Brothers...) header pipe 30km from camp and I rode it back on the choke. It ran back fine but wouldn't start the next time - I'd burnt the exhaust valves. When it eventually fired it ran real rough and the header glowed red for about 300mm within about 20 seconds! It got all new Honda valves (it needed the Exhausts and the Inlets got done as well) and a piston in it while it was apart though the original piston looked and measured up OK - that was at 7860km. Valves had never needed reshimming, and were last checked at 7000km. I thought that was a pretty good run, after all the paranoia about valve life - mine only needed replacing because I'd burnt them, and I'd been figuring on a pre-emptive topend at about 8500km anyway (all that was about to change...)
Since then it's had an Athena 490 kit (it needed another piston and the barrel was scuffed) and another full set of valves (the exhausts looked a little pitted, and the inlets had been moving)
It's now needing reasonably regular valve adjustment, and I have had to replace the decomp mechanism after the only time the bike failed me on a ride (albeit before lunch on day 1 of a 2 day ride) but I've also recently had to kick it for most of a weekend ride as the valves closed.
All in all it's been a good thing, but it is (not surprisingly) needing more attention now.

My XR4 is still in bits (3 years, I think..) but I think it's all ready to go back together now so that's my early 2014 project!

I wouldn't do another km on it without swapping out the piston, 80 hrs seems to be the most you want to do with them.
I'm assuming it's not rattling or you would have done it already?

Al.C possibly has the most kms on his previous 450, 12K i think he had on it when he sold it, fresh as a daisy when he moved it on with heaps of extras.

His new bike he acquired earlier this year has nearly as many as mine already... mine is up around 8500 but it hasn't had much of a look in over the last year or 2 thanks to injuries.

I am as we speak doing the top end for the second time since new, a TRX piston is going in [thanks HH] and all new OEM valve bits yet again [only inlets].
