sounds very similar to last year's model which is unusual as it seems like there's a fair few changes.

              • Anybody have any long time reviews of their 19/20 WR450?

Close to pulling the trigger on either the 450 or 250.

Last WR450 i had (2014), i swore i'd never buy another 450 again. The thing pummelled me. Awesome fun when i was fresh but a nightmare in the whoops towards the end of the day.

Had a WR250f in 2015 and the thing was a scalpel, so much fun, pin it all day with no worries. but not so good on the long dirt roads that area an unfortunate inclusion into trail rides in this area.

Geoff Ballards' youtube vids have me intrigued when he mentioned he normally doesn't like 450's but this one is different, lighter feeling and smooth power.

Looking to get some opinions on owners.

                TIA

                • Tobz your not giving this problem your full undivided attention

The real question here Tobz is - Have you had your 'colours' read lately?
                  Truth !
Human beings being complex types - well our most beneficial personal colours change slightly throughout the years.

                  450
                  - 250
                  _______
                  = 350

                  • Interesting response to say the least .

But a KTM is a no from me. owned one and rode a couple. they're just weird feeling and uncomfortable, while they have great conponents, they lack in some departments. Yamaha's are comfy to me and do everything well, a jack of all trades if you will.

                    Thanks for the reply tho

Ive gone from the 2015 WR250f to the 19 WR450f, 1st ride i was a little self doubting if I made right decision, but Ive learnt how to ride the 450 again and am absolutely rapt with it, (I too owned the 2012 WR450f and absolutely hated it) Cheers Lofty

It was more the power thing to be honest (just being used to the 250) and suspension was way too soft, Ive since done suspension and valving, changed maps,( the second map switch works a treat). Cheers Lofty

                            • A friend brought some other mates along today for a ride and one of them had a new 2020 WR450F. First I have seen in the flesh.

                              He was nice enough to let me have a ride. Notes;
                              • Power was very linear, soft, almost like a 250F. I pulled up and he told it was on the soft map, so turned the blue light off via the map switch and it was a different bike. Plenty more motor, still very easy to control in my opinion but with more bark and much more willing to rev. Stock exhaust etc.
                              • Steering - very agile. Much more so than my KTM 450. The front end was stuck to the ground, could steer across ruts etc, it didn't want to wash out. Handlebars were noticeably lower than a KTM EXC.
                              • Clutch - I think I read or heard in a review when this bike was launched that the clutch was still heavy. I reckon is was lighter than my KTM 450 clutch. Very good.
                              • Suspension - bike was new and felt tight, so hard to say. It certainly was not YZF suspension but it was not as supple as I was expecting. It might loosen up a bit with a few more rides.
                              • Ergos - were bloody terrible for me, way too small and cramped but I have had Yammies in the past and go the ergos sorted out just fine.
                              • Weight - I don't know how much it weighs and was not riding technical stuff, but it did not feel at all top heavy like my old 2011 YZ450F did. Again, the word is agile on change of direction etc. I didn't get to run over big logs or rock gardens.

So the question is, where are they all going? I am aware of the sales data but this is the first I have seen. I reckon Yamaha can sell a few more of these units if people get to swing a leg over. The old KTM demo days probably didn't do their sales any harm back in the day.....before COVID!!!!
