  • I have the contour roam as well. I only did my first video for this ride but if im not wrong you should just be able to go to my computer and see the removable disk drive which will be the contour. Search all the folders and you will come across one with a whole lot of files which will be your videos. If you find the one you like then you can just go onto youtube, and next to the search button click "upload". Then it you can add your movie file either by dragging it into the window it directs you to or by clicking a button and searching for the file. Then it will just start uploading to youtube for you.

edit* Glenns way seems much easier

        • Hey Drew,

Er, yeah, what Glenn said. ^rof

I'm not much use to ya mate, I use a Mac.

But when you have the vid all ready to go, you can easily upload to youtube by (assuming you have an account started) clicking the upload button.

Once it's up on youtube, you click the share tab, copy the youtube code from the little window, then you start a new post here, click the youtube button just above your message window, and paste in the youtube code. Then you delete everything in front of the / leaving only the meaningless 45ugi&&$jfg code, and Bob's your uncle (or your previous sweep rider before Dennis showed up and knocked him off his perch).

Is that any use to you?

          Cheers.

Best way to save drama and hours of trawling through looking for good bits is this.
flick it on at start of a piece of trail and off at end, you'll get a couple of mins or 10 at most.
Easier to sift through 10 small than one huge video then have to cut it up.

Top bit of advice Rabs. Clearly from somone who has, like me, realised how difficult it is to decide how to cut 2.5hrs of ride footage down to a max 8-10min clip that will hold a persons interest to the end.

                  Other good tips are:

                  * Think about the type of vids you like to watch yourself, noting the type of action, shots, length etc. Then, when you hit the trails, think of that vid whilst youre out riding. A good film maker will do this and that is why they always have those cool camera angles, perspectives etc. It's because they're thinking of the movie they'd like to make whilst theyre capturing raw footage. Look at some of the unique camera angles and diversity of footage in what Barry and Strummer put up. I'm sure its because their experience has them thinking that way. If I'm wrong, then they must just be bloody geniuses :-)
                  * Have a note pad and pen by your side when you watch the footage through for the 1st time. Note the sections that are cool as you watch. Makes editing a whole lot quicker and easier.

And lastly, if you dont want a Tb of unedited video footage, make a rule that you wont shoot more footage until you have edited the last. Helps keeps you focused and interested :-)

Shooting footage is easy. Editing it into something entertaining is the real skill.

                  Have fun.

geez pete you'll make us blush. editing is definitely easier if you just take short bits of good stuff (although then miss classic action like scott cutting off claire).

i usually only spend an hour or two editing after a ride. plus if the result is only 4 mins or less it usually uploads in less than an hour to youtube. helps if you can spin your bike's mirror around to make sure your camera is or isn't recording.

don't wanna sidetrack this thread too much, but got a lot of tips from other video freaks and posted them here: Any tips for better motorbike videos?
maybe start a similar thread on dbw?

                    • Well I went out with Strummer and the crew today and it was awesome. Top bunch of blokes whom I've never met before but made me feel welcome as soon as they arrived.

The trails were awesome all the way to the cafe at Woodford and then all the way back to Beerburrum. I don't think there was a type of terrain we didn't cover.

Every got back in one piece and there were no broken bikes....despite there being some pretty decent hills. I had one crash for the day which is good for me, sadly it was the old 'feet can't touch the ground' trick

Big thanks to Strummer for leading and the laughs and to Simon Cowell for sweeping 95% of the day. If the mighty Strummer is good with the decision we might have found a good start to the first level 'X' ride.

I'll look forward to hitting the trails with you all again sometime

                      • Very sage advice from all 3 of you. Especially the part about me being really good ^lol

Like you guys said, ECONOMISE when you are filming and save yourself a whole world of grief when editing.

Takes of no more than 15 seconds are my usual.
Start, stop, start stop. Get rid of all the in between useless footage before it becomes a hassle later.

Having said that, my vids differ from Mr B's sometimes, in that I will edit to cruisey 30 second sequences sometimes, where Baz's vids play like a super pro rock music video, with cuts every 2 seconds.

Both ideas work, and that's why I really enjoy collaborating with Baz.

Camera angles are king, as is being aware of what's framing your subject.
Is the sun in the right place?
Is there nice scenery behind or is it a grotty dusty track.
Are there young women with glorious physical attributes in the shot (very important to retain the interest of prospective viewers).

Most importantly, BE RUTHLESS when editing. No one wants to look at 1 hour of uploaded helmet cam with the subject about 300 metres from the camera guy.

Use only the 'exceptional' footage in your masterpiece.

And there you have it. I got nothing more! Sh*t, just gave away all my secrets

                          • Strumm's gumby rides - grand finale!!!

Well, the final 'official' Mucky ride for 2013 certainly went off with a bang - followed closely by uncontrollable whimpering, copious quantities of tears, and a generous helping of self pity!

I swear if Steve had a helmet cam today, he could have uploaded a 'epic fails' video that would have been sure to go viral within hours.

Alas, not one cam was in evidence to capture my most Numpty moments of the year.

My first little bad occurred on the rollercoaster, when I got to a down hill section that had twin deep ruts with a slippy sloped mound running in between them.

I was feeling pretty full of myself (and wanted to impress the celebrity riders who had joined us for the day - more on that later), so I hit the hill on the centre mound, realising too late my mistake, as the front tyre scissored off the mound into the left hand rut.
The considerate 4WD owner who had placed a nice slippery stick lengthways in the rut helped me along with the next bit.
The front grabbed on the stick, forks compressed fully (more on that later too) and yours truly did a not-so-graceful nose dive down the hill, landing on my face (which was just as well, as it's the only part of me that couldn't get much worse with some gravel rash).

My first thought was 'Wow, I'm landed and I didn't hurt anything!'

My second thought (of a total of seven that I had today) was....

'Oh F*CK, the bike is still in the air!!!!!' :speechles

I clenched every muscle as tight as I could (including the sphincter) and waited to see what part of the bike was gonna bury itself in my spine.

                            KATO to the rescue.
My beloved old horse looked after me yet again, as I felt the soft seat whack me in the back. Although it did cause me to do a second nose dive into the Beerburrum gravel.

                            Net result of off #1?

Sprained left hand, twisted bars and a good belly laugh.
(Thanks to Wayne for playing Tim the toolman).

My second off was much less spectacular, although still highly entertaining for Steve, who just happened to be behind me again (are you noticing a pattern here?).

On Snake-trails, I hit a series of sandy whoops going around a corner, and my rear shock spat the back of the bike into orbit. I managed to wrestle the old girl back into a straight line... whew!
But as I mentioned, I was going around a corner at the time.... mmmm.....

I shot off the track and over the berm into the bush.

'Cool' I thought 'I'll just wash off speed through these shrubs'.

Well, I woulda made it too, if it wasn't for that damn meddlin tree!

                            Net result of off #2?

Busted mirror, sprained right wrist, bruised left leg, twisted forks (which was handy because it straightened the twist from the previous off) and a jolly good belly laugh for Steve, when I leapt up and shouted 'DID YOU SEE THAT???'

In other news, Kudos to Glenn, who's riding skills have skyrocketed in recent months.

At one point Glenn came up to me and asked 'When are you planning on doing the gnarley ride Strumm?' .....

                            ER.... this is it Glenn.

Obviously I need to work on choosing more difficult tracks???

Kudos also to Curtis, who will be putting me out to pasture pretty soon, man that boy can ride!

I am thinking, for 2014, people like Curtis and Scott will be penalised by having to strap a bag of cement to their bike before the ride, as making the Strumm look inept will JUST NOT DO!

Kudos must also be awarded to Dan, who punted the DRZ around all day like a true champ. He didn't even utter one word of complaint, misery or dissatisfaction the whole ride!

                            Did he guys.......?

Was very kind of him to offer comic relief for the rest of the crew, as he went into his 'Keystone cops do Glasshouse' routine.

                            Funny stuff.
'Hey guys, watch me drop the bike on the left side.... now the right..... hey, get this, I can break this ankle off and still keep riding!'

                            You get the picture...

Great to ride with my good mates Craig and Wayne too, some blokes just seem to be there for you when you really need it. Cheers dudes!

Top ride, and I'm looking forward to the 2014 season, perhaps with a new bike.

Why is it that Strummer who fell off way more times and spectacularly than I did had at most 1 other witness, when I had the ENTIRE group watching me at my most stupid. Hardly fair huh? That's OK though, he had the excuse of a clutch he wasnt used to

Special mention must go to Curtis, Just remember, if the log is higher than your hub, you need to get the front wheel up^rof

Glenn mate, you really need to get a decent tyre monkey. Seems to me the one you've got has given you the flat tyre hex

Glenn mate, you really need to get a decent tyre monkey. Seems to me the one you've got has given you the flat tyre hex

Thanks again guys, appreciate the help I was given today
