Somewhere I had seen Turn 3 post about a track from cassia to the top of monkey gum, eliminating the fire trail.
I passed the sign Pillion East or west ‍♂️ I crossed monkey gum at some point, down dickie knee hill, the track was very overgrown from then on, popped back out on monkey gum..........reluctantly rode the FT to the lookout.........did I miss more track that would have eliminated the FT?
    where would I have exited?

    cheers
    Steve

So if you started on the powerlines opposite Cassia you would have ridden Pillion East. Pillion West is on the western side on Monkey Gum and Dickie Knee Hill is part of Pillion West.

Pillion West comes into the old Upper Penda. Just before you turned up the rocky climb back to Monkey Gum Penda does continue below the cliff line. It is however fairly overgrown, we have ridden it and cleared a path through a while ago but it hasn't been ribboned. This would bring you out at the Monkey Gum lookout.

A few of us have been planning on clearing and ribboning this section to eliminate the FT section but it's just another thing on our to do list.

Pillion West needs work asap or it will be done and dusted.

Thanks ManBoy, I am familiar with Penda, Lower and Upper and recognised it when we joined it.
I wasn’t sure if you had cut an alternate track on the eastern side that led to the lookout.

cheers for your work, I’ll add it into my loop and get some traffic on it .

            Steve.

              Hey Steve,

Since you're riding local are you on Facebook or Instagram? I'm on both. Have a Turn3Racing307 page. Just thought it would be good to have backup communications incase dbw goes off-line. Also on Shoalhaven Enduro FB page. Manboy and I get out a bit together. Would be good for you to join us one day.

Directly opposite where you rejoined Monkey Gum there is a new single "Double Trouble", it links across to the power lines.

It was intended that a new single would branch off this and run north to the Monkey Gum lookout. I have plotted an indicative route that does run east of the FT and incorporates a few cliff lines to give a good view of the valley. It would end up being somewhere around 5 - 6 KMs long.

Unfortunately with the rapid regrowth and a new job that requires me to work all the bloody time I just don't think it's going to happen.

Your comments have renewed my interest though so I might go out there for a look next time I ride. I don't really mind putting in the hard work but people need to ride it otherwise it's wasted.

                  man verses forest ....

                  forest wins.

untill upper canopy establishes it self again , this prolific growth on forest floor will continue ,, not helped by la nina conditions ,,

much jerrawangala is the same..issue .

ultimately if you re open , ideally dragging thru 20 gumbys would be the go , to give good definition ,

i had riders stripping ribbon off new tracks in wandy , thinking they will save the track from overuse , ,,,

but the effing track will disappear into the green room if not trafficked !

                  just saying..

Does the big WR need a fuel cache in the bush this time? Aidan's 2t fuel in the 4fiddy worked a treat last time

In regard to the greenery, it isn't taking over on the plateaus, only in the valleys and below cliff lines. The high ground around Monkey Gum, the top of Wandy etc is still viable for new trails.

Anyway, if anyone does decide to drag a bunch of guys through anywhere, Penda and surrounds need it urgently, not lower Penda though unless you take a chainsaw.
