  • My last DBW Ride Report ?

It’s traditional to have a Christmas ride. This year it was planned for Wednesday but the forecast was 34 and Thursday looked a lot better so that was decided.
I got all my mates together at short notice and I was the only starter. Not a problem, no Husqvarnas to push start, no punctures from the last ride to fix, no one to wait for. I loaded up and went to Linville for a good long open ride.

    L1.jpg

I started in the main street of Linville. Then up the road to Monsildale Ck Rd.

    L2.jpg

Monsildale Ck Rd is initially bitumen then dirt and goes for about 15k’s across the paddocks. It’s a gazetted public road . It has a few gates to open and close which is easier with a group.
    The horses weren’t concerned.

    L3.jpg

As I approached the gate a few deer appeared (and disappeared again. There are a lot of feral deer in this area and it’s common to see them.

    L4.jpg

The track also crosses Monsildale Creek , a tributary of the Brisbane River, several times. I have seen it range from totally dry to impassable. It was about axle deep here.

    L5.jpg

I eventually came out to Monsildale Rd, went right for a few k’s then into the forestry and headed generally north towards Jimna.

    L6.jpg

Into the Pines for a while

    L7.jpg

Eventually I came to the hut owned by the bloke who allegedly produced a shotgun once when some riders pissed him off. There appeared to be no one home but I didn’t stop to find out.

    I kept going towards Jimna

    L9.jpg

I stopped to have a look at progress on the fire tower restoration. Hmmm

    L10.jpg

Then I went to the Peach Trees campground and had a break. There was no one there. Usually it’s very busy.

    L11.jpg

Then it was a transport section for about 30k’s up the Kilcoy Murgon Rd.

    L12.jpg

    A casualty

    L13.jpg

At this point I turned off and back into the forestry towards Elgin Vale.

    L14.jpg

Some easy tracks with a good variety of vegetation.

    L15.jpg

    A couple more gates.

    L16.jpg

    Some more pine forest

I eventually came out to Porter Rd a bit south of the old Forestry hut. I kept going generally west towards the Western Branch Rd.

      L18.jpg

Some lantana lined single through the pines.

      L19.jpg

Then left at the Western Branch Rd. Some rolling hills to the west. They’re starting to look green.

      L20.jpg

The Western Branch Rd follows the western branch of the Brisbane River for about 20 k’s until it joins the Eastern Branch when the both become the Brisbane River. The road crosses the river 37 times.

      L21.jpg

After a few K’s I turned off on the road that links the Western Branch rd and the Eastern Branch Rd. No through road they keep telling us. The bullet holes are from the other direction.

      L22.jpg

This road goes up over the range that separates the western and Eastern branches. It starts out open but becomes dense pine forest.

      L23.jpg

After about 10k’s it joins the start of the Eastern Branch Rd.

      L24.jpg

After about 20k’s the Eastern and Western Branch roads join

Another no through road that I had just come from.

        L26.jpg

Then I head for my starting point.

        L27.jpg

Both branches of the river have merged to become the Brisbane River. This is still about 150k’s from the sea. (a guess, maybe more)

        L28.jpg

The road follows it back to Linville.

        L29.jpg

I packed up and headed home. The other tradition is to have a beer at the Linville pub but it was closed for the day. Bugger.
I did 178k’s for the day. No punctures, no running out of fuel, no getting lost. Thanks to the lead, the sweep and the mid pack riders.

Yeah, the green wont last long if we don't get follow up rain. It's still really dry.
