  • 2010 YZ250F wreck

Well I have a summer bike to ride. Bought a 2010 YZ250F for $300 she is rough and the engine is seized. Took a little risk after speaking to the owner its a big end not the upper part of the engine. I guess I could sell the SSS forks for that if its stuffed. I have a 2018 Beta 350RR on order so the YZ will not be my main bike more of a summer play toy to keep the hours of my Beta. There are summer m/x events here in WA so I may get along to a few as training for the 2018 Enduro series over here.

So where is the best place to host pics these days ? Photobucket now sucks for this.

    Try imgur

Best of luck with the YZF... sometimes you have to take a punt that you can get something running, even if it doesn't come off chalk it down to experience.

Well its a bit of a rough machine but I'm pretty sure we will be on a winner after a bit of work. Its been a bit hot but the head is flat and the cams spin fine, the valves are in spec just need to measure them and touch up the seats. The cylinder is stuffed I need a new one. The fork seals and shock seals are all blown the linkage feels ok as does the swing arm, will see once its pulled down. I have stripped the engine completely will post it up later.

      OUCH

Keep em coming MM! Nothing like a nice project bike thread to keep the interest alive.

I'm sure she'll buff up fine with a little TLC. Fun little bikes they are!

Cheers Jakobi, going to be a little slower than I'd like funds are low after this season running two race bikes, need to save for next year.

Copy that!! I've been riding less and spending a bit more time with the missus and kids wetting some line with light tackle.. Does seem to be a bit easier on the pocket than riding all the time..but with the wet season coming I think conditions will be back in favour of playing in the mud! Or tinkering in the shed..

How were the valves not munched with all that mess on top of the piston?

No its really soft seats need a little touch up that's all. Valve clearance measured in spec need to measure the valves themselves pretty sure I dogged a bullet though. Bike was only $150 so not to fussed I have room to move.

Guy you got it from could have parted it out for more.
Or he had no mechanical ability (or pure lazy) at all?

That conrod looks blue in the photo like it has been very very hot. Does the big end bearing feel smooth?

Na thats std heat treatment on these cranks, the big end is smooth as but I will put a rod kit in it. Sending out the head next week for a valve touch up getting excited.
