  • 1999 Honda CR80 Expert Restoration

    Howdy,
Just thought I would throw up some details and pics of a restoration I am doing. For those wondering, I ride an rmx450 in the trail but I am a small fellow
and a hotted up 80 gets me moving around the mx tracks and I can ride it all day and go to work the next day.

So this bike is an attempt for me to ride more mx and not wear myself out and have some fun smashing gears and riding a 2 stroke at its near limit.
As opposed to the bike riding me.

    Anyways

    99 cr80
Pro Circuit works edition header and stainless silencer
    vforce2 reed box and reeds
    new keihen pwk28mm flat slide
rebuilt suspension with kashima coating, revalved etc by Suspension Matters who have done very good work on my rmx in the past
Powdercoated frame with double coat and plugged threads etc
    All new bearings and bushes
    New Renthal Bars
    Frame guards
    Chain, Chain sliders etc
New plastics with crf150 front guard, crf250 number plate, crf150 side covers
New factory graphics (last available in the world, tempted to copy and print new ones to save me using these)
    New tyres
    New throttle and cable
    New clutch and cable

    Let pics do the talking.

sorry if they are a bit blurry my phone is doing some dumb thing where it doesnt like to focus.

Great bikes! My boy was sponsored by Honda in the 90s and we had a full factory bike (RC80). HRC top triple and OEM Pro-Tapers (in 96!)

Made a genuine 30HP at the countershaft, it'd be clicking upshifts up steep hills where the other kids were dropping down a gear.

It was a beast. It won NSW Pro-Junior, Iron Man and Junior MX titles in one year (96)

p.s. 'Bills' was the best pipe for them.

That things cool as, would appreciate any more pics if you have or the where abouts of any parts.

Eric Gorr in the usa who does the super mini builds says that with pwk28 carb and stock pipe and silencer they get 32hp with a 100cc kit.
Apparently they coat the bore to 4 microns as opposed to factor 1 micron.
Believes it to be a much more hour friendly jug. Makes more power right accross the board.

I have bought a second jug and will ship that away and get a different squish head so I can swap it over on a weekend as opposed to sending mine away and being without a running bike. These things always coincide with the best weekend event of the year magically so always pays to be prepared.

For some reason when I use the image tags on this site the images dont come up. So have to link, you guys seem to have it sussed.

Awesome. How much you into it for? Any reason you didn't go for a later model? Love the CRF50 with lights!:grinning-

I paid 800 for it and ive probably spent that again on it.
Shocks are going to be pricey when I pick them up maybe more than the bike

CRF is road registered and 100% Legal,
I ride it to work to save fuel over driving my troopy now and then.
Also ride it to uni so I dont have to pay for parking or get my car damaged in
the car park. Just ride straight into the bike racks.

As for why I didn't go a later model,
          I have had a 99 cr 125 250 and 500 and I have always thought that year
was my favourite graphics and seat etc.

I like the whole white frame white tank 90s thing.

I think its a bit more unique and on an 05 85 or something id
          not be as happy.

I used the frame from a different bike and modified it to fit crf motor and plastics.

I went to the dealer and bought a new 50, made a stator and battery mount etc. xr400 winkers and crf450 headlight. Trailtech speedo etc.

Pic is my old 250 for comparison
